
KANO – In a heartbreaking incident, the Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, lost three family members in an early morning fire that engulfed his residence at Kofar-Mata quarters in Kano metropolis on Wednesday.
The fire broke out while the family was asleep, leading to the tragic deaths of Dr. Kofar-Mata’s daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister, Khadija, and a close relative, Juwairiyya. The commissioner himself narrowly escaped the disaster.
Several valuables were also destroyed in the blaze. However, details about the extent of the damage and the cause of the fire remain unclear.
The State Fire Service spokesperson, Abdullahi Saminu, confirmed the incident but stated that the level of damage and the cause of the fire could not be immediately determined.
Dr. Kofar-Mata expressed his profound grief on his verified social media handle, stating, “Unto Allah, we came and to Him we shall return.”
He mourned the loss of his loved ones, saying, “I mourn the loss of my daughter Maimuna (Islam), my senior sister, Hajiya Khadija, and my brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, who all perished in the fire accident this morning.”
Funeral prayers for the deceased were conducted at 11 am at Kofar-Mata quarters in Kano City.
