Nigeria’s Super Eagles Drop to 39th in FIFA World Ranking

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has experienced a slight decline in the FIFA World Ranking, dropping one spot to 39th place in the July rankings. According to the latest rankings released by FIFA, the Super Eagles maintained their total points of 1,498.93 from the previous month.

PUNCH Online reported that Nigeria’s drop in the rankings follows disappointing performances in recent World Cup qualifying matches, which led to a significant drop from 30th to 38th place in June.

Despite the global decline, Nigeria remains 5th on the continental stage, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire in Africa.

Meanwhile, on the global football scene, the rankings reflect the outcomes of three continental competitions and numerous international friendlies held in June and July, encompassing over 125 matches worldwide.

Argentina continues to dominate the rankings, securing the top spot after successfully defending their CONMEBOL Copa América title. France follows closely in 2nd place, having reached the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2024.

Spain, newly crowned European champions after defeating England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final, climbed five places to secure 3rd position in the rankings.

England, now ranked 4th, moved up one spot following their impressive performance in the Euro 2024 tournament, surpassing Brazil (5th, down 1) and Belgium (6th, down 3) who have slipped out of the top five.

The FIFA World Rankings reflect the dynamic performances of national teams across various competitions and continue to shape the global football landscape heading into future tournaments.
