According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the leaders concentrated on pressing global issues, with a particular focus on the urgent challenge of climate change. Their discussions delved into potential collaborative opportunities in anticipation of the forthcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to addressing climate change while maintaining the nation’s energy security needs. He expressed Nigeria’s willingness to align with global sustainability strategies, demonstrating the country’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
The conversation also covered innovative approaches to climate financing. Both leaders expressed a keen interest in leveraging Nigeria’s influential position in Africa and the Commonwealth to enhance partnerships in climate action.
