vThe Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced its readiness to manage any potential protests in the state, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining peace and order. Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, spoke to PUNCH Online in Uyo on Sunday regarding the planned protest set for October 1.
Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo has deployed operatives to strategic locations across the state to prevent the protest from escalating into violence. John reassured residents that they could go about their daily activities without fear of harassment, stating that adequate security measures are in place to ensure their safety.
Regarding the anticipated protest, John stated, “The truth is that the Commissioner of Police has made the necessary deployments… By the grace of God, there will be no protest in Akwa Ibom State, and if there is, it will be peaceful, preventing any hoodlums from hijacking it and causing disruptions.”
Organizers of the protest, titled #FearlessOctober1, have indicated that it is a continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protests that occurred from August 1 to 10. The police are determined to ensure that peace and comfort are maintained in Akwa Ibom State during this period.
