Manchester United have joined the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking sensation, Victor Boniface, setting up an intriguing transfer battle with Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The 23-year-old Nigerian forward has been in scintillating form since his summer 2023 move to the Bundesliga club, quickly emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. In his debut season, Boniface netted 21 goals and registered 10 assists in 34 appearances, playing a key role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga triumph that ended Bayern Munich’s long-standing dominance.
Boniface has continued his impressive run into the current season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in just eight Bundesliga appearances. Additionally, he marked his UEFA Champions League debut with a decisive goal against AC Milan, further boosting his profile.
According to reports from Fichajes, both Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing to compete for Boniface’s signature, with the forward’s potential transfer fee estimated to be between €60m and €80m.
Despite recently signing young strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, Manchester United are still keen to strengthen their attack, with Boniface seen as a player who could provide the additional firepower the team needs. Chelsea, on the other hand, has long been in the market for a world-class striker, and Boniface fits their strategy of targeting the best young talents in world football.
Boniface’s contract with Leverkusen runs until the summer of 2028, giving the club significant leverage in any negotiations. However, the striker appears focused on his current form with Xabi Alonso’s side, with no indication of a rush to leave.
As the January transfer window approaches, both Manchester United and Chelsea are expected to intensify their pursuit of one of Europe’s most promising forwards.
