Paris Saint-Germain have rekindled their interest in Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman as they look to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window. The French giants have struggled to find consistent goal-scoring form in recent matches, prompting them to revisit their pursuit of the Nigerian international.
Lookman, 26, has been in remarkable form since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 for €9.35m plus bonuses. In 81 competitive appearances for the Serie A side, he has scored 33 goals and provided 20 assists. His stellar performances include a standout season last year, where he contributed 17 goals and 10 assists across 45 matches. One of his most memorable moments came in the UEFA Europa League final, where Lookman scored a sensational hat-trick to lead Atalanta to the title against Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman’s excellent performances have not gone unnoticed, with top European clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Juventus reportedly monitoring him. His value has soared, and according to Fichajes, Atalanta have set an asking price of between €65m and €75m for the forward, a figure likely aimed at warding off suitors in January.
During the summer transfer window, PSG’s previous offer of between €25m and €30m, including bonuses, fell short of Atalanta’s €50m valuation. However, Lookman’s stock has only risen since then, notably following his Player of the Match performance in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League. He scored a goal and provided an assist, becoming just the second Atalanta player to achieve such a feat in a single Champions League match.
With his consistent performances and growing stature, Lookman is also in the running for the 2024 African Player of the Year award, further enhancing his reputation.
Atalanta are currently competing in the UEFA Champions League and fighting for European qualification for next season, which means they are unlikely to let go of their prized asset without a substantial offer. As PSG continues to monitor Lookman’s situation, the question remains whether the French champions will meet Atalanta’s valuation or if the Italian club will hold firm in their desire to keep the “King of Bergamo.”
As the January transfer window nears, all eyes will be on whether Lookman makes a high-profile move to PSG or continues to thrive with Atalanta.
