The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the timetable for the party’s 2025 zonal congresses. The congresses will result in the election of new Zonal Working Committees (ZWC) and National Ex-officio members.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba confirmed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had given its approval for the conduct of the congresses. The decision comes ahead of the expiration of the tenures of the current Zonal Executives across the South-South, South-East, South-West, North-Central, and North-East zones.
The NWC, during its 592nd meeting, outlined the schedule for the congresses, with key dates and procedures for aspiring candidates. The sale of nomination forms for all ZWC positions and National Ex-Officio roles will take place from November 18 to December 18, 2024. All Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms must be submitted to the Directorate of Organization and Mobilization by January 17, 2025.
Screening for aspirants will be held at the Zonal Headquarters on January 25, 2025, followed by an appeal process on February 1, 2025. The list of cleared aspirants will be published on February 12, 2025, with delegate lists released the following day.
The congresses will be held on February 22, 2025, for the North-East, South-East, and South-South zones, and on March 22, 2025, for the North-Central and South-West zones. Appeals regarding the congresses will be heard by February 25 and March 26, 2025, respectively.
Ologunagba urged all intending aspirants to contact the Directorate of Organization and Mobilization or the Directorate of Finance at the National Secretariat for information on applicable fees and further inquiries. He also called on PDP leaders, stakeholders, and members to remain united and work towards the progress of the party.
