Governor Dapo Abiodun Urges Awujale to Foster Unity and Religious Tolerance Across Nigeria

The Ogun State Governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, has called upon the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona, to continue leveraging his experience and leadership to promote unity, peace, and religious tolerance in Nigeria. Abiodun appealed this during the conferment ceremony of Amir ul Mulukil Muslimin Fi Bilad (Commander of Muslim Kings) in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States upon the 90-year-old monarch. The event took place at the Ijebu-Ode Palace on Tuesday and was organized by the League of Imams and Alfas in the region.

In attendance were notable figures such as the Asiwaju of Ijebu land, Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa; the Chairman of Bigi Industries; former Deputy Governors of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Kaka and Alhaja Salmot Badru; the paramount ruler of Yewa Land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; and popular fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, among other dignitaries.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the significance of the Awujale’s new role, acknowledging the royal father’s longstanding commitment to exemplary leadership. He remarked, “Today’s ceremony is a celebration of faith, value, and courageous leadership as represented by the Awujale over the years.” He further praised Oba Adetona for embodying compassion, wisdom, and integrity—qualities that justify his selection as the Amir Mulukil Muslimin.

Abiodun urged Oba Adetona to use this new position to foster unity and peace across Nigeria, stating that no nation can thrive in a chaotic environment. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting religious tolerance and unity across the country.

As part of the ceremony, Governor Abiodun announced the flagging off of the reconstruction of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode express road, a critical route serving 17 states in southern Nigeria. He revealed that President Bola Tinubu had granted approval for the project following his request during a recent visit. Abiodun commended President Tinubu for his responsiveness and dedication to fixing the country.

In his remarks, Professor Emeritus and Chief Imam of Gbagura, Kamaldeen Balogun, encouraged Oba Adetona to continue promoting Islam and the well-being of Muslims in Nigeria. He also appealed to the monarch to consider establishing a university for Muslims or creating a world-class library to leave a lasting legacy for educational advancement in the country.

The conferment of Amir ul Mulukil Muslimin Fi Bilad marks a historic moment, recognizing the Awujale’s role as a bridge between tradition and modernity, and his enduring commitment to religious tolerance, peace, and development.
