Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in dire straits, with only divine intervention capable of bringing the party back on track. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday night, Fayose attributed the party’s current woes to the defeat suffered in the 2023 general elections and the internal discord caused by arrogance among some party leaders.
Fayose expressed that the consequences of the electoral loss are still haunting the PDP. He emphasized that the mismanagement and arrogance of certain party chieftains have only worsened the situation.
“The elections have come and gone, but the aftermath of the loss continues to affect the party. It would take a miracle for PDP to be united again, especially when you have internal suspensions and counter-suspensions,” Fayose said.
When asked how the party could overcome its crisis, Fayose urged all stakeholders to reflect on past mistakes and work together to rebuild. He cautioned that failure to move past the party’s turbulent history would hinder its future prospects.
The PDP has been grappling with internal strife, and the crisis escalated recently with the suspension of key figures within the party. Factions within the National Working Committee (NWC) have taken turns suspending top officials, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged disloyalty.
