On Monday, four bloggers—Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami—were re-arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on fresh charges of conspiracy, cyberstalking, and publishing false allegations against Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO).
The police filed 10 counts against the bloggers, accusing them of spreading misleading information intended to harm GTCO’s reputation. The charges also include extortion, threats, and causing a loss in the bank’s shares and market value.
The defendants were previously arraigned on September 27, 2024, on two counts of cyberstalking and false publications directed at GTCO’s CEO, Segun Agbaje. Following their plea, they were remanded at the Correctional Centre.
The latest charges allege that the bloggers intentionally spread false information targeting GTCO, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the broader banking system, aiming to cause disorder and extort the company.
Further details are expected.
