Kazan, Russia — In a significant address on Thursday at the conclusion of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged leaders of the emerging economies to act as a “stabilizing force” in a world facing “serious challenges.” His remarks come as BRICS aims to unite nations against perceived Western dominance.
Xi emphasized the importance of collaboration among member states, highlighting that the “common march of the global South towards modernity is a major event in world history.” He called on BRICS countries to strengthen global security governance and seek comprehensive solutions to pressing global issues, advocating for strategies that address both the symptoms and root causes of conflicts.
“The world still faces serious challenges to its peaceful development,” Xi warned, underlining the urgency of collective action in addressing these issues.
In a pointed message regarding ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Xi called for a ceasefire in Gaza and efforts to prevent further escalation in Lebanon. “We need to continue to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, relaunch the two-state solution, and stop the spread of war in Lebanon,” he stated, expressing a desire to see an end to suffering and destruction in both Palestine and Lebanon.
Xi’s comments come amid a backdrop of rising tensions and conflicts in various parts of the world, and they reflect China’s growing influence as a leader in advocating for peace and cooperation among developing nations.
The BRICS summit, which included representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, aims to forge a united front to address global challenges and enhance economic cooperation among its members. As the group seeks to expand its influence, Xi’s call for solidarity and stability resonates as a critical agenda for the future.
