In a notable stride against rising crime, the Kano State Police Command announced on Tuesday the arrest of a notorious thug, Inuwa Zakari, popularly known as “Gundura,” along with 14 accomplices. Zakari, 24, was well-known for terrorizing Kano metropolis and is suspected of recently assaulting a Vigilance Group Commander, causing life-threatening injuries, and damaging a police vehicle during the attack.
The arrests took place during targeted police operations conducted between October 25 and 27, under the directives of Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba. The crackdown was part of an intensified campaign to curb thuggery and other violent activities across the state.
According to Command spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna, the suspects are undergoing investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department and will soon be charged in court. “This isn’t the first time the Kano State Police Command has taken decisive action against criminal activity,” Garba remarked, commending the public for its cooperation.
The Kano Police Command had previously apprehended 269 individuals involved in looting during an August 2024 protest. In light of these efforts, Garba encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities, via the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926, assuring the public of prompt response.
