The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday issued a sharp rebuke to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dismissing him as an “infamous election loser” following his claim that the 2023 presidential election was stolen from him. The statement, released by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka in Abuja, comes amid ongoing political tensions.
Atiku, who ran as the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently took to his official X account, declaring that the mandate was “criminally stolen” from him. In response, Morka accused the former Vice President of being a perennial loser in Nigeria’s presidential races, stating that Atiku’s track record of electoral defeats “have even been further certified in Nigeria’s courts.”
“Make no mistake,” Morka said. “Atiku is Africa’s most infamous presidential election loser. Since serving as vice president, he has lost election to every single president elected to office in Nigeria. Six times in the last 17 years, Nigerians have declared their verdict of uncanny desperation and lack of sportsmanship and roundly rejected him at the polls.”
Morka further criticized Atiku’s refusal to accept his defeat in the 2023 election as a display of “extreme and disturbing political desperation.” He suggested that Atiku’s repeated electoral defeats and subsequent legal challenges have cemented his reputation as “unabashed” and unwilling to concede.
Addressing the Nigerian electorate’s stance on Atiku, Morka referenced former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s widely publicized reluctance to endorse Atiku, reportedly remarking, “If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me.”
This latest exchange highlights the ongoing political friction between the APC and PDP and underscores the APC’s firm stance against Atiku’s continued contesting of the election results.
