The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has decried the recent attack on the motorcade of Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, a fellow lawmaker from Abia State, which resulted in the death of a police officer.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, on Monday, Kalu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred Sunday night at Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area. Unidentified gunmen ambushed the convoy, tragically killing a police aide attached to Onwusibe.
Fortunately, Onwusibe, who represents Isiala North and Isiala South Federal Constituency, was not present in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
Call for Justice and Security Measures
Kalu, who also represents Bende Federal Constituency, condemned the attack as a heinous crime and called for a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“No form of violence, crime, or criminality must be tolerated in Abia or anywhere else in the country. Perpetrators must steer clear of God’s Own State,” he warned.
He emphasized the need to prioritize the safety and security of public officials and their teams, urging authorities to take decisive action to prevent similar incidents.
Condolences and Solidarity
The Deputy Speaker extended his condolences to the bereaved family of the slain officer, the police force, and the Abia State Government.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the slain police officer. We must stand united against violence and work towards creating a secure environment for all,” Kalu said.
The attack has sparked calls for enhanced security measures in Abia State and across the country to safeguard lives and prevent further violence.
