The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday held a solemn plenary session in honor of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly.
Tributes and Ceremony
The remains of Senator Ubah lay in state in the foyer of the White House wing, just outside the Senate Chamber. His seat in the chamber was adorned with flowers and draped with a cloth in the Nigerian flag’s colors as a tribute to his service.
The day’s agenda was singularly dedicated to a “Valedictory Session,” reflecting the Senate’s deep respect for Ubah.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, dressed in traditional Isi-Enyi attire with a red cap and dark sunglasses, presided over the session. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele similarly donned traditional Isi-Agwu attire, symbolizing unity and respect for their late colleague.
Dignitaries and Guests in Attendance
The ceremony was graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, and former Senator Uche Ekwunife. Wives of Senate presiding officers, including Ekaette Akpabio, Hajiya Jibrin Barau, and Oluyemisi Bamidele, were also present.
Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas led a delegation of House leaders in a solemn procession around Ubah’s casket, paying their respects.

Somber Atmosphere
The session, which allowed non-senators to participate, was marked by heartfelt tributes celebrating Ubah’s contributions to the legislative body and his unwavering dedication to the Anambra South constituency.
The valedictory session underscored the Senate’s recognition of the late senator’s impactful legacy, with both lawmakers and guests uniting in mourning his loss.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah will be laid to rest on November 22.
