The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, has debunked claims surrounding a trending video showing a heated interaction between the Lagos State Governor and a young woman.
Gawat clarified in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the video, which sparked online debate on Wednesday, was from an event held on January 28, 2019, when Sanwo-Olu was still a governorship aspirant.
The incident took place during a public question-and-answer session at an event organized by Niteshift Coliseum in Opebi, Lagos.
Context of the Incident
Gawat explained that the woman in the video had raised a question but became confrontational, raising her voice during the exchange. He noted that the atmosphere remained calm after the incident.
“Trending Old Video: This encounter here happened on January 28, 2019, when Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu was aspiring to be Governor of Lagos State. A young woman stood up to ask a question, just like others had done. She started being rude and raising her voice,” Gawat wrote.
He further clarified that no security personnel, including the DSS or police, intervened in the situation at the time.
Call Against Misinformation
Gawat urged the public to avoid spreading false narratives about the clip, which he noted was being misrepresented as a recent occurrence. The incident, he emphasized, had no bearing on current events.
The clarification comes amid increased scrutiny and discussions on social media surrounding political figures and their interactions with the public.
