Governor Umo Eno Reaffirms Commitment to Public-Focused Projects, Addresses Misconceptions on State Funds

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his dedication to using state funds exclusively for projects that will benefit the majority of Akwa Ibomites, rejecting pressures to cater to the interests of a select few.

The governor made this declaration during the State Executive Council Ministerial Briefing and End-of-Year Review on Monday, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo. The event, themed “Showcasing Achievements: Signposting the Future,” was aimed at highlighting the administration’s achievements and charting its future goals.

Eno responded to recent claims suggesting that he personally holds vast wealth, clarifying that the funds he manages are state resources entrusted to him for the welfare of the people of Akwa Ibom. “When people see me, they believe I have a lot of money. I don’t have personal funds; I hold money in trust for the people of Akwa Ibom State,” Eno said.

The governor emphasized that his administration would prioritize the needs of the majority, stating, “I will always disburse funds to address the needs of the majority rather than personal interests or demands from individuals. I hold myself accountable to the people of Akwa Ibom and will not misuse state resources to play to the gallery.”

Eno also outlined his government’s focus on capital projects, highlighting that the 2025 budget was primarily allocated to infrastructural development, with only a third dedicated to recurrent expenditure. “Our administration is focused on ideas and projects that will benefit the overall needs of our people. We are deliberate about addressing the infrastructural and developmental needs of Akwa Ibom State,” he affirmed.

While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism, Eno cautioned against unwarranted attacks that seek to undermine the government’s efforts. “We welcome constructive feedback because it helps us understand the views of the people. However, when criticism becomes outright condemnation, it becomes a problem, as it weighs down leadership,” he remarked.

The briefing also included presentations from key members of the State Executive Council, including Mrs. Mfon Usoro, Chairman of the Ibom Deep Seaport Implementation Committee; Prof. Eno Ibanga, Commissioner for Works; and Emen Bob, Commissioner for Economic Development.
