President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the families of six Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives during a terrorist assault on January 4, 2025, at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.
In a statement issued Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the fallen soldiers’ courage and selflessness, stating, “Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered.”
The President lauded the swift and decisive retaliatory actions of the Nigerian Armed Forces, particularly the air component, which conducted targeted strikes that neutralised numerous terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to escape.
“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” Tinubu said.
Acknowledging the continued challenges posed by terrorism and banditry, the President reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the armed forces in eradicating these threats. “Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these dangers,” he affirmed.
Call for Investigation and Intensified Operations
President Tinubu has called for a thorough investigation into the Sabon Gida attack to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and draw lessons to prevent similar occurrences in the future. He also urged the military to intensify its operations, especially in the Northwest, where banditry remains a grave concern.
Additionally, Tinubu appealed to Nigerians, including the media, to unify in their support for the military’s efforts to restore peace across the nation. “We must remain united in our resolve to support our armed forces as they work tirelessly to protect our people and secure our nation,” he urged.
