Nigerian Educator Kayode Adewale Named Finalist for 2025 Global Teacher Prize

Mr. Kayode Adewale, a Mathematics teacher at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School in Ogun State, has earned a prestigious spot among the 50 finalists for the 2025 Global Teacher Prize. The announcement was made on Wednesday via the prize’s official website.

Adewale, a STEM educator, teaches in a semi-urban community where many students come from low-income farming families with limited access to quality educational resources. Despite these challenges, he has gained recognition for his innovative and culturally sensitive teaching methods, which have significantly transformed classroom learning.

Revolutionizing Education Through Culture and Technology

Adewale integrates local languages such as Yoruba and Hausa into his lessons, simplifying complex mathematical concepts and making them relatable to his students’ cultural realities. The organizers praised him for bridging academic content with the linguistic and cultural experiences of his students through instructional videos and practical examples.

Leveraging technology, Adewale encouraged students to use smartphones as academic tools rather than solely for entertainment. By introducing platforms like the Technology-Assisted Management Solution (TAIMS) and educational apps such as Inquiry Learning Space (ILS) and PhET simulation, he fostered collaborative virtual study groups and hands-on problem-solving. These efforts improved students’ performances in exams while equipping them with critical 21st-century digital skills.

Impact Beyond the Classroom

Adewale’s influence extends well beyond his immediate teaching environment. As the founder of the Transformation1090 Initiative, he has trained over 30,000 teachers, empowering them to integrate technology into their classrooms. His Ogun517GoToSpace program has inspired interest in space science among students and educators by facilitating collaborations with global experts, including NASA professionals.

Additionally, his commitment to environmental education is evident through tree-planting projects and climate change simulations, enabling students to actively engage with sustainability issues.

Recognition and Achievements

Adewale has received numerous accolades, including being named the 2nd Runner-Up for Best Teacher in Nigeria and earning awards for excellence in mathematics education. His work exemplifies resilience, creativity, and a steadfast commitment to education as a transformative force.

“Kayode Adewale’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and an unyielding belief in the transformative power of education,” the organizers said.

Adewale’s vision of ensuring every child has access to quality education has become a reality in his community, and his contributions continue to inspire students and educators alike to unlock their full potential.

This nomination not only highlights Adewale’s extraordinary efforts but also underscores the vital role of education in addressing socio-economic challenges and empowering future generations.
