President Tinubu Mourns Victims of Washington DC Air Crash

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the tragic air accident in Washington, D.C., United States, which claimed at least 18 lives and left many others injured.

The catastrophic collision occurred at 9:00 PM (0200 GMT) on Wednesday near Ronald Reagan National Airport, when a passenger jet carrying 64 people crashed into the Potomac River after a mid-air collision with a U.S. military helicopter.

Details of the Crash

According to reports, the Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, operated by PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines, was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Reagan National Airport when it collided with a U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.

Tinubu Extends Condolences

Reacting to the incident, President Tinubu took to his official X handle on Thursday to express his condolences to the families of the victims, the U.S. government, and all those affected by the tragedy.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Washington, D.C. On behalf of Nigeria, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of the United States, and all affected by this profound loss.”

The President also praised the bravery of first responders, commending their selfless efforts in rescuing survivors and managing the aftermath under harsh conditions.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States Government and its people, united in grief and hopeful for a new day.”

The crash has sparked global concern, with world leaders joining in mourning the victims. The U.S. authorities continue their investigation, while aviation safety experts analyze the incident to prevent future occurrences.
