Katsina, February 6, 2025 – The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for a unified approach to tackling drug abuse in the state, emphasizing that the fight against illicit substances requires the involvement of families, communities, and leaders at all levels.
Speaking at a sensitization and advocacy program for women and youth, held in Katsina on Thursday, the NDLEA Commander in the state, Muhammad Aminu-Abubakar, stressed the importance of community-driven efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse.
“The fight against drug trafficking and abuse is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders. All hands must be on deck to combat this menace,” he stated.
Role of Stakeholders in Drug Prevention
Aminu-Abubakar underscored the critical role of families, religious institutions, traditional leaders, and the government in combating the growing threat of drug abuse. He urged parents to closely monitor their children, while calling on community leaders to support sensitization efforts aimed at discouraging youth from substance abuse.
Additionally, he appealed to the Katsina State Government to continue providing logistical and financial support to the NDLEA to enhance its enforcement and rehabilitation programs.
Growing Concern Over Drug Abuse in Katsina
The NDLEA’s call to action comes amid rising concerns over drug-related crimes and addiction in the state. The agency has recently intensified efforts through arrests, rehabilitation initiatives, and awareness campaigns to combat the influx of illicit substances into local communities.
