Brazilian superstar Neymar stole the show in Santos’ 3-0 victory over Internacional de Limeira, scoring directly from a corner kick—a feat known as an “Olympic goal.”
The 33-year-old forward, who recently returned to his boyhood club on a six-month contract, was taunted by the home crowd while preparing to take a 27th-minute corner. Rather than letting it affect him, Neymar responded in style.
“I went to take the corner, and they provoked me,” Neymar said after the match. “I asked them to sing louder, I struck the ball and got an assist. The second time, they did it again, so I thought to myself: ‘Now I’m the one who’s going to score the goal’ [laughs].”
His brilliant curling strike caught goalkeeper Igo Gabriel off guard, hitting the far post before bouncing in. The goal was so spectacular that even opposition fans applauded in admiration.
Road to Redemption
After struggling with injuries that limited him to just seven games for Saudi club Al Hilal over the past 18 months, Neymar is now focused on regaining top form.
“I’m taking it game by game, getting ready and feeling better on the field,” he said. “I’m not going back to being 19 years old—how much I miss it—but I feel better and more relaxed.”
National Team Ambitions
Neymar is also eyeing a return to the Brazil squad ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.
“Regarding the call-up, I’m there,” he stated. “Each player’s desire is to defend the country, and for me, it has always been an honor. If I have the opportunity to return, I will be very happy.”
Brazil coach Dorival Junior will announce the squad on March 7, and fans are eager to see if the Seleção’s all-time top scorer (79 goals) will make his highly anticipated comeback.
