PSC Appoints Six New Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Promotes Senior Officers

Abuja, Nigeria – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and promoted several senior officers, including Commissioners of Police and Assistant Commissioners of Police.

Newly Appointed DIGs

The newly appointed Deputy Inspectors General of Police include:

  1. Sadiq Abubakar – Commandant, Police Academy, Wudil, Kano
  2. Benjamin Okolo – AIG, Department of ICT, Force Headquarters, Abuja
  3. Williams Adebowale – Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos
  4. Bzigu Bali – AIG, FCID Annex, Enugu
  5. Idegwu Basil Ukuoma – AIG, Zone 14, Katsina
  6. Adebola Ayinde Hamzat – AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa

Promotions and State Command Appointments

In addition to these appointments, the PSC also promoted Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, to Assistant Inspector General (AIG).

Furthermore, two new Commissioners of Police (CPs) were assigned to Oyo and Enugu State Commands:

  • CP Ademola Johnson – Appointed CP Oyo State
  • CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa – Appointed CP Enugu State, replacing AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu

Promotion of Senior Officers

The commission also approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), including:

  • Abdullahi Kamba Usman
  • Sani Abdu
  • Ifeanyi Owo
  • Vincent Orole
  • Elisha Atikinkpan
  • Margaret Okonkwo
  • Alhasan Aliyu Guga
  • Imo Owinizi Ezekiel

PSC Chairman’s Remarks

The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), urged the newly appointed DIGs to provide full support to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun in strengthening national security and maintaining law and order.

These appointments and promotions are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the country’s security challenges.
