Bauchi Woman Arrested for Allegedly Strangling Co-Wife to Death

Bauchi, March 5, 2025 – The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old woman, Fatima Mohammed, for allegedly strangling her co-wife, Hajara Isa, to death in their matrimonial home.

The command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the incident was reported by the husband of both women, Sale Isa, on March 3, 2025.

“On March 3, 2025, at about noon, one Sale Isa of Anguwan Sarakuna area, Bauchi, reported the incident, raising suspicions regarding the circumstances surrounding Hajara’s passing. Family members have indicated that they believe her co-wife may have a role in the incident,” the statement read.

Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Details

According to the police, the crime occurred on February 28, 2025, inside the family home. Upon receiving the report, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, ordered a detailed investigation, leading to the arrest of Fatima Mohammed.

During interrogation, Fatima reportedly confessed to strangling Hajara and attempting to cover up the crime by pouring boiling water on the body and burning it with a melting Bagco sack.

Homicide Unit Takes Over Case

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probing. The Commissioner of Police has also deployed a team of experienced homicide detectives to ensure a thorough investigation, using forensic and scientific tools.

“This team is dedicated to conducting a professional, diligent, and timely investigation to uncover the truth and address any uncertainties while ensuring that justice is pursued,” Wakil stated, adding that exhumation and advanced forensic analysis might be employed.

The Bauchi State Police Command assured the public that justice would be served and that all individuals found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
