Seaman’s Schnapps Takes Centre Stage at Coronation of 46th Alaafin of Oyo

Seaman’s Schnapps, Nigeria’s leading prayer drink, reaffirmed its cultural significance as the official drink of honour at the coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I.

The historic coronation ceremony, held at the iconic Olivet Heights in Oyo, drew a distinguished crowd of royal fathers, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and the global Yoruba diaspora. Guests from Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, and other regions of the Americas and West Africa were in attendance—highlighting the global reach and ancestral significance of Yoruba traditions.

Throughout the event, Seaman’s Schnapps was a prominent feature during ceremonial libations, traditional blessings, and hospitality rituals, underscoring the brand’s deep-rooted ties to honour, spirituality, and cultural heritage.

Mr. Gbemileke Lawal, Marketing Manager of Seaman’s Schnapps, spoke on the brand’s symbolic role in the coronation:
“Being part of this historic Oyo moment reaffirms Seaman’s Schnapps as the drink of honour, heritage, and prestige. To be at the heart of such a globally significant Yoruba cultural event demonstrates the timeless relevance and stature of our brand.”

Also commenting, Senior Brand Manager, Mrs. Nnenna Uche-Onyenacho, expressed her pride in the occasion:
“It was a true delight to witness the pride and power of tradition so beautifully showcased. Being part of this historic moment as the official drink is not merely an honour—it drives our commitment to do even more. We remain devoted to supporting royal institutions and upholding the timeless values they represent.”

The coronation festivities, which spanned several weeks of traditional rites and cultural engagements, marked a significant new era for the ancient Oyo Empire. More than a royal ceremony, the occasion served as a celebration of Yoruba resilience, heritage, and the enduring bonds between Africa and its diaspora.

As chants of royalty filled the air and traditions came alive, Seaman’s Schnapps stood not only as a refreshment of choice but also as a spiritual emblem—uplifting cultural values and celebrating a royal legacy that bridges the past and future.
