Unidentified gunmen attacked the Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday evening, abducting the son of a prominent local trader in a brazen act of violence that has left residents in fear.
The assailants reportedly struck around 7:00 p.m., shooting indiscriminately as they stormed the quiet community. Witnesses say the attackers were targeting Alhaji Haruna Halilu, a well-known trader in the area. However, he was not present at the time of the raid.
“When they couldn’t get Alhaji Haruna, they abducted his son, Mas’ud,” said eyewitness Ibrahim Faruruwa, who described the chaos that ensued during the assault.
Confirming the attack, Kano State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command is aware of the incident and has launched a full investigation.
“We are currently gathering details and will provide comprehensive updates as the investigation progresses,” Kiyawa stated.
As of the time of reporting, the number of abductees or possible casualties remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident adds to growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, where abductions and armed attacks continue to unsettle local communities.
