Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has passed away under circumstances that have prompted a formal police investigation.
Shimite reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday after what has been described by sources as a brief illness. However, uncertainty surrounding the cause of her death has drawn public attention and concern.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, stated that Shimite was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital where she had been rushed for medical attention.
Her husband, whose name has not been disclosed, is currently in protective custody following threats allegedly made against him in the aftermath of her death.
“He was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked,” Edafe said. “It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
However, the situation took a new turn when members of the deceased’s family formally petitioned the police, raising suspicions that the husband may have played a role in her sudden death.
“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” Edafe added.
As of press time, the Delta State Government has not released an official statement regarding the death of the senior aide, though political observers say her passing marks a significant loss within the administration.
Chief Shimite was a respected figure in the state’s economic development efforts, known for her work in promoting trade and export initiatives across Delta State. Her contributions to grassroots empowerment and entrepreneurship also earned her wide admiration.
The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
