Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised the resilience and global potential of Nigerian youths, following the achievement of 11-year-old Miss Cara Victor Antai, who won a bronze medal at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Final 2 in the United Kingdom.
Akpabio gave the commendation on Wednesday when he received the young champion at his country home in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The courtesy visit was disclosed in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.
“I congratulate you, my daughter, on this great feat. It shows that Nigerians, given the opportunities and encouragement by the relevant agencies of government, can achieve whatever they are out to achieve. This award bestowed on you is a demand for more hard work. I also congratulate your parents, Dr and Mrs Antai, for ensuring that you achieve this great feat,” Akpabio said.
The TeenEagle competition, which tested participants’ receptive skills (reading and listening) and productive skills (writing and speaking), attracted over 20,000 students from 69 countries. The final round took place between July 27 and August 3 at the University of Surrey, UK.
Nigeria was represented by eight students five from NTIC Abuja and three from NTIC Yobe. Competing in the TeenEagle 1 category, Cara emerged 3rd Place (Bronze) and also won the Special Award for Best in Charisma.
Her achievement follows the stellar performances of other Nigerian teenagers at the event. The Atiku Abubakar Foundation has since awarded fully-funded scholarships to Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukaiya Fema, and Khadija Kalli for their outstanding results. The foundation, in a letter signed by Acting Secretary Prof. Ahmadu Shehu, commended their success as proof of the limitless potential of Nigerian children regardless of gender or background.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier congratulated the Nigerian delegation, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hailed Yobe’s Nafisa Aminu, who was crowned World’s Best in English at the competition.
