Awka, Nigeria – Security operatives in Anambra State on Thursday conducted a major raid on a notorious criminal hideout in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area, recovering 14 firearms and arresting a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate.
The operation was led by the state security outfit, “Agunechemba,” in collaboration with the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), military, and local vigilantes.
Weapons and Items Recovered
According to a statement posted on Agunechemba’s official social media handles, the security team confiscated:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- Eight pump-action guns
- Four locally-made pistols
- 101 cartridges (three packets)
- Four empty AK-47 magazines
- Three cutlasses
- One Baofeng radio (a communication device)
- One motorcycle
- Various charms

A video of the raid, which is trending on social media, shows security personnel and locals celebrating the successful operation, with many hailing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for strengthening security in the state.
Authorities Yet to Comment
While the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Policing, Ken Emeakayi, could not be reached for comment, a police source confirmed that the operation was intelligence-driven.
“Anambra must be free again. The governor has done much, and he has given us the mandate to secure the state, and that’s what we are doing. Those criminals must bow,” the source said.
The Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that he was yet to be briefed on the development.
The successful raid is seen as part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities in Anambra State, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security.
