Munich — Bayern Munich have secured the signing of German international Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Thursday.
The 29-year-old centre-back signed a four-year contract that runs until 2029. Speaking on the move, Tah said: “I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we’re successful as a team and win lots of trophies together.”
Tah spent ten seasons with Leverkusen, helping them win an historic unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in 2023–24. With his contract set to expire in 2025, Tah opted not to extend and received a warm send-off from fans at his final home game in May.
Bayern, in need of defensive reinforcements after Eric Dier’s departure to AS Monaco, had pursued Tah last summer but were unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s fee at the time.
“Jonathan Tah brings international experience and leadership. He will quickly become an important figure in our defence,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
Tah has earned 35 caps for Germany and is part of Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the upcoming Nations League finals. Germany face Portugal in the semi-finals on June 4 in Munich.
Meanwhile, Bayern were also interested in Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, but the 21-year-old now appears closer to a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.
