Lagos, Nigeria — Ride-hailing platform Bolt has launched its first-ever Passenger Safety Meet & Greet in Lagos, opening a direct safety dialogue with riders to address concerns and build trust in Nigeria’s expanding mobility sector.
The event a global first for the company brought together passengers, drivers, regulators, Bolt Business clients, media, lifestyle influencers and members of the Bolt team for open, unscripted conversations on safety and service expectations.
Attendees discussed a wide range of issues, including data privacy, rider verification, fare disputes and air-conditioning etiquette in the Economy category. Some passengers expressed concern over drivers taking screenshots of personal details on the app, calling for privacy protections comparable to banking security standards.
Delivering the keynote, Director of Public Transport Commuter Services, Engr. Adebayo Olusoji, stressed the importance of collaboration between operators, regulators and users, highlighting continuous education, policy enforcement and community engagement as key to safer urban mobility.
Bolt showcased its suite of safety tools such as trip sharing, audio trip recording, rider and driver verification, an emergency assist button, in-trip insurance, and 24/7 customer support urging drivers and riders to use these features to protect themselves during trips.
“This isn’t just about enforcing platform rules; it’s about co-creating solutions that reflect the real experiences of riders and drivers,” said Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Bolt’s Head of Regulatory and Policy. “When we listen, learn and act together, we can build a more respectful and secure ride-hailing experience for all.”
An interactive role-play session saw drivers and passengers re-enact common points of tension from payment disputes to service expectations sparking discussions on empathy, respect and better communication.
The Lagos event marks the start of Bolt’s broader nationwide engagement strategy aimed at creating a people-first, inclusive and responsive ride-hailing ecosystem across Nigeria.
