In a prestigious ceremony at the National Summit and International Youth Day Celebration Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) awarded Chibuokem Onyekwelu the title of “Tech Professional of the Year” on November 26, 2024.This honour highlights Onyekwelu’s outstanding contributions to product engineering and mobile technology, particularly his role in developing and deploying more than 10 mobile applications, collectively reaching over 100,000 users across Africa. His work spans impactful projects such as the Female Invest mobile application (serving 80,000+ users) and the Delta State Learning Management System, which has expanded access to digital education for thousands of learners.The event, held at Ibom Hall, Akwa Ibom State, was a pivotal gathering of young leaders and innovators, showcasing initiatives designed to empower youth and advance digital transformation across Africa.Upon receiving the YALI award, Onyekwelu expressed his gratitude, stating:“This recognition is not just for me, but for the countless young Africans who are using technology to transform lives. Together, we can continue to build scalable, innovative solutions that empower communities and drive sustainable growth.”This award reinforces YALI’s mission to spotlight Africa’s emerging leaders and underlines Onyekwelu’s position as a technology professional shaping the continent’s digital future.
