An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan on Tuesday summoned the medical doctor attached to the Agodi Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service to appear before it on Wednesday over concerns surrounding the health status of a former Chairman of the Park Management System in the state, Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary.
The summons followed Auxiliary’s absence in court, which stalled proceedings in his case. The matter, presided over by Justice Adetujoye of Court 11, was adjourned to January 20 and 21, 2026.
Auxiliary had earlier been brought to the court premises but was unable to appear before the judge due to alleged health-related issues. The court had briefly risen before his case was called.
A source familiar with the incident said the matter was scheduled for 11 a.m., but after several sessions, the court reconvened around noon. Before the judge returned, officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service reportedly gathered around Auxiliary, saying he was unwell.
“Some people were pouring water on his head while others were applying Aboniki balm on his legs,” the source said. “After some time, the officers contacted their superior at the Agodi Custodial Centre, brought their vehicle and, with the assistance of officials, his children and friends, took him out of the court premises.
“What was shocking was that when he got outside, he walked to the vehicle on his own.”
Tension reportedly rose in the courtroom when Justice Adetujoye returned and learned of Auxiliary’s absence. Defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), informed the court that he had been told his client was ill.
The judge asked the prosecution if it was aware of the development. Counsel representing the state included O.S. Tella, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions; O.A. Bolarinwa, Senior State Counsel; and F.F. Gbadamosi.
Responding, the lead prosecutor, O.S. Tella, relayed what she observed in open court. The explanation, however, drew the ire of the presiding judge, who stated that the court should have been formally informed before Auxiliary was removed from the premises.
Justice Adetujoye stressed that even if the defendant was sick, an official of the Nigerian Correctional Service was required to officially notify the court of his condition.
Both the prosecution and defence counsels were unable to provide a satisfactory account of the incident, further angering the judge.
In his ruling, Justice Adetujoye adjourned the matter until Wednesday and ordered the medical doctor at the Agodi Custodial Centre to appear before the court to clarify Auxiliary’s health status.
