Ekiti Police Arrest Man for Inflicting Serious Injuries on Four-Year-Old Son

In Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, police have arrested Kunle Ogunnusi for allegedly beating and severely injuring his four-year-old child. The arrest followed a credible tip-off received by the Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, revealing that Ogunnusi admitted to the crime. According to Abutu, Ogunnusi claimed his actions were provoked by the child’s misbehavior.

The investigation further uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse. Abutu reported, “The suspect is known for regularly abusing his child, often using dangerous objects and causing injuries over minor provocations.”

The arrest took place on July 14, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m. Police operatives from the Oke-lla Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to the tip-off and apprehended Ogunnusi at the scene, where he was found in the act of assaulting his son.

Abutu noted that Ogunnusi will be charged in court for the assault. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged residents to report any form of child abuse or criminal activity to the authorities promptly.

“The Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale, has stressed the need for residents to report any observed abuse or criminal activities to the police immediately to ensure timely intervention,” Abutu added.

The case underscores the ongoing issue of child abuse and the need for vigilant community reporting to protect vulnerable individuals.
