Federal Government Promises Resolution Ahead of Planned Nationwide Protest

The Federal Government has assured that it is working to resolve the issues driving the proposed nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. The planned demonstrations are in response to the ongoing economic hardships faced by many Nigerians.

On Wednesday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, convened a closed-door meeting with ministers to address the situation. Following the meeting, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the issues and ensuring national peace and stability.

“We have discussed matters of national interest, and everyone involved is dedicated to working towards the country’s well-being. We hope Nigeria will emerge stronger from this,” Idris said.

Idris described the planned protests as a “family matter” and assured that all issues would be handled in a manner that promotes peace. He acknowledged the legitimacy of the protesters’ concerns, stating that the government is fully engaged with stakeholders to address the issues.

“The planned protest is a matter of national concern, and we are addressing it with the seriousness it deserves. The President and all government officials are actively working to ensure that peace prevails,” Idris added.

He also responded to remarks by prominent figures such as constitutional lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana, SAN, who has advocated for the protests. Idris affirmed that while Falana is entitled to his opinion in a democracy, the government believes that there is no immediate need for protest and is urging for calm.

“Everyone has the right to express their opinions, but the government is appealing for patience and calm. We are committed to addressing all issues and believe that continued dialogue is the best approach,” Idris stated.

The Minister reiterated the President’s message for Nigerians to remain patient and assured that the government is working diligently to meet the public’s expectations.

“President Buhari and his team are fully engaged and committed to resolving these issues. We ask for more time and understanding from the public as we work towards solutions,” Idris concluded.
