Former Bournemouth Player Jordan Chiedozie in Coma After Tragic Car Crash

Southampton, UK – February 6, 2025 — Former Bournemouth forward Jordan Chiedozie has been left in a coma after a devastating car accident on the M27 motorway near Southampton.

The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Bashley FC in the Southern League, was returning from a weekend match at Tavistock alongside club physio Reighan Taylor when their vehicle suffered a flat tyre.

As Chiedozie checked the issue on the hard shoulder, he was struck by another car, leaving him with life-changing and potentially life-threatening injuries.

Club Statement and Arrest of Suspect

Bashley FC confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Tuesday, expressing deep concern for Chiedozie and his family.

“Jordan was taken to Southampton Hospital suffering multiple broken bones and other physical injuries. At this time, he remains in a controlled coma,” the club said.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

While Chiedozie remains in critical condition, Taylor, though physically unharmed, has suffered severe emotional trauma but managed to administer first aid at the scene before emergency services arrived.

Emotional Toll on Club and Family

Bashley FC has since applied to the Southern League to postpone Tuesday’s scheduled match against Thatcham Town, a request that has been approved.

Club manager David Lewis described the situation as “devastating”, revealing that Chiedozie’s teammates were emotionally shattered by the news.

“Everyone at the club is completely stunned by what happened, and our thoughts at the moment are far more with Jordan and his family, and with Reighan than they are with football,” Lewis stated.

“Jordan’s teammates are in bits, and I am certain they would not want to play so soon after this terrible accident.”

The club has vowed to provide full support to Chiedozie’s family as they navigate this difficult time.

A Football Journey Across England

Chiedozie, son of former Tottenham Hotspur winger John Okechukwu Chiedozie, started his career at Bournemouth’s academy in 2007 and has played for over 15 clubs across England, including Cambridge United and Poole Town.

Fans and footballers across the country have since sent messages of prayers and well-wishes, hoping for a miraculous recovery for the injured star.
