In a notable gesture of goodwill and commitment to citizen welfare, Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has gifted 1,000 Saudi Riyals (about ₦450,000) to each of the 3,200 pilgrims from the state who participated in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Governor Aliyu made the announcement during his visit to the Sokoto pilgrims in Makkah on Saturday, where he congratulated them on successfully completing their religious rites.
“I thank you for being good ambassadors of our state in the holy land. I am indeed very proud of your conduct,” the governor said.
He praised their maturity, discipline, and sense of responsibility, noting that the financial support was aimed at easing their return preparations and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to citizens’ welfare both within Nigeria and abroad.
The governor also commended the efforts of the Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, and the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for ensuring a smooth Hajj operation.
In a heartfelt appeal, Governor Aliyu urged the pilgrims to pray for Nigeria, particularly for peace and an end to the nation’s security challenges:
“No matter the effort we are putting into addressing insecurity, prayers remain the best weapon.”
The governor extended his condolences to the families of Hajiya Hadiza and Bala Jangebe, two pilgrims from Gudu and Shagari LGAs, who passed away during the pilgrimage. He prayed for divine mercy and comfort for their loved ones.
Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo expressed gratitude on behalf of the pilgrims, praising the governor’s leadership and support throughout the Hajj process.
With this generous Sallah gesture, Governor Aliyu continues to underscore his focus on the spiritual, social, and economic wellbeing of Sokoto indigenes both at home and abroad.
