Gunmen Abduct Two Students Near Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi

Makurdi, Benue State – Two students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) were abducted by unidentified gunmen late Tuesday evening outside the university campus.

Sources within the university revealed that initial reports suggested four students were kidnapped, sparking panic among the student community.

A student of the institution, Ashar Lubem, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation on Wednesday, stating:

“Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them. Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident.”

Police Confirm Incident, Launch Investigation

Speaking to journalists, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, confirmed the abduction but clarified that the police had only received a report regarding two missing students.

“We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped. We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon,” Anene stated.

Security Concerns Grow in the Region

The incident has heightened security concerns among students and residents in Makurdi, as cases of kidnappings and violent attacks have been on the rise in parts of the state.

Authorities have assured the public that security agencies are actively working to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and to apprehend the perpetrators.
