Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving at least five personnel feared dead.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, according to findings by The PUNCH. Unconfirmed reports indicated that five NPS officers lost their lives during the assault.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the attackers were yet to be identified.
“Yes, there was an attack by unknown gunmen on the men of the National Park Service,” Ayanlade said.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, was on the way to the scene to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts.
Ayanlade added that tactical teams, including operatives of the Mobile Police Force and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force, have been deployed to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
Security operations are ongoing as authorities work to restore calm and investigate the attack.
