The Kano State Government has approved contracts worth over N40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads across metropolitan local government areas.
Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, announced the approval on Tuesday during a tour of completed and ongoing projects with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya.
According to him, the projects cut across Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo LGAs, and are part of the state’s infrastructure drive to ease traffic, boost commerce, and improve residents’ quality of life.
Key contracts include:
- Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass – N1.896bn
- Jafar-Madobi Road and underpass – N1.323bn
- Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road rehabilitation – N2.014bn
- Muhammad Buhari Road rehabilitation – N4.108bn
- Rijiyar Lemo Road – N494.3m
- Erosion control on Kwanar Durba–Fammar-Kunau Kure Road – N205.9m
- Airport Road rehabilitation – N5.956bn
Beyond the metropolitan projects, the government has also earmarked N13.3bn for the construction of the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA and N6.9bn for the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan-Dutse roads in Albasu LGA.
Waiya explained that the roads were prioritised for their social and economic importance, adding that upon completion they would facilitate smoother transportation, enhance the movement of farm produce to markets, and stimulate business activity across the state.
