Keep Walking: Why Your Journey Doesn’t Need Their Approval

By Ediale Kingsley

In business, sports, and personal growth, one truth remains universal: people will always have opinions about your journey especially when they don’t understand your destination.

Too often, the noise of critics becomes a barrier to progress. But here’s a reminder worth internalizing those who don’t know your future have no authority over your present. You have two choices bend under the weight of their doubts or stay the course.

Take Lionel Messi’s story as a powerful metaphor. Once labeled a “one-club man” by critics who sought to diminish his career, he kept evolving. From his legendary years at Barcelona to a fresh chapter in Paris, and now redefining expectations in Major League Soccer (MLS), Messi never allowed the narrative to shape him. He responded not with rebuttals, but with results.

Remember the 2022 FIFA World Cup? After Argentina’s shock loss to Saudi Arabia, many wrote off their chances. The loudest voices said Messi would never win a World Cup. But Argentina didn’t flinch. They regrouped, recalibrated and triumphed in Qatar. The same critics who once scoffed had to applaud. Ironically, it was tournament favorite France that ultimately fell to the so-called underdogs.

The takeaway? Present setbacks don’t define your future. Doubters often speak the loudest when they understand the least. What they fail to account for is your resilience, your vision, and your long game.

Today, the global football spotlight shines on leagues once dismissed. The MLS, once ridiculed, now hosts legends. Saudi Arabia, once a football outsider, now features Cristiano Ronaldo and growing star power. These shifts show that today’s outlier can become tomorrow’s trendsetter.

Life, like sport, is lived in seasons. The child who once wore a torn uniform may become a fashion icon. The student who walked miles to school might now drive their own children to class. The one who failed an exam could still graduate at the top of life’s leaderboard.

Growth isn’t always glamorous. Success rarely follows a straight line. But every step counts. Every chapter matters. So, keep walking. Keep building. Your story is still unfolding, and you hold the pen.
