Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.
Governor Ododo gave the assurance on Wednesday during an unannounced visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Ijumu Local Government Area. The visit followed a courtesy call at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rabiu Sule, the Ologidi of Ogidi, and a commissioning ceremony of a new Divisional Police Headquarters in Ekinrin-Adde.
Addressing the corps members, the governor urged them to embrace the core values of the NYSC scheme — unity, discipline, and patriotism — while making the most of their service year by contributing meaningfully to community development across the state.
“You are the future of Nigeria,” Ododo told the corps members. “Take your duties seriously, be patriotic, and leave a lasting impact on your host communities. Kogi State is peaceful, and we will continue to support and protect you throughout your stay.”
The governor also made a cash donation to support the welfare and morale of the corps members currently undergoing the mandatory three-week orientation programme at the camp.
In his response, Kogi State NYSC Coordinator Mr. Femi Osungbohun expressed gratitude to the governor for the surprise visit and the administration’s continued backing of the scheme. He described the gesture as timely and reflective of a leadership that values youth development and national service.
“We thank Your Excellency for your commitment to the NYSC and for making the welfare of corps members a priority,” Osungbohun said. “This visit will inspire greater dedication among the corps members and strengthen their resolve to contribute positively to the state.”
The governor’s visit comes at a time of renewed focus on corps member welfare and security across Nigeria, particularly in light of recent concerns about safety in some service areas.
