A 55-year-old man who accidentally fell into an underground channel along Ikorodu Road, Idiroko Bus Stop, inward Maryland, Anthony Village, in the Kosofe area of Lagos State, has been rescued alive by operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).
According to the agency, a distress call was received around 12:24 p.m. on Saturday, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Ilupeju Fire Station to the scene.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the team arrived at 12:45 p.m. and swiftly commenced a coordinated rescue operation using specialised equipment and confined-space techniques.
“On arrival, rescue personnel discovered that the incident involved a pale male adult, approximately 55 years old, who had accidentally fallen into a manhole,” Adeseye said.
She explained that the firefighters promptly initiated a well-coordinated rescue effort, ensuring the victim’s safe recovery after several hours of sustained work.
After the man was successfully pulled out alive, he was handed over to officers from the Anthony Police Division for further necessary action.
“The operation was successfully concluded, and the scene was secured at 3:41 p.m.,” she added.
Adeseye reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos through timely and professional emergency response.
