Man Allegedly Kills Pregnant Fiancée, Daughter in Edo, Flees

A man identified as Wealth Nnamdi is currently on the run after allegedly killing his pregnant fiancée, Osasu Isaac, and her three-year-old daughter, Miracle, following a domestic dispute in the Ovbiogoe Community of Benin City, Edo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 16, just weeks before their scheduled traditional and church weddings on March 29 and April 6, respectively.

Details of the Incident

A neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the couple had a heated argument on the day of the incident. Although their quarrels were frequent, the dispute took a deadly turn this time.

“Osasu Isaac, known as ‘Mama Hallelujah,’ was a petty trader and had been living with Wealth Nnamdi for over three years. Their traditional marriage was scheduled for March 29, and the church wedding was planned for April 6,” the neighbor said.

“After their argument on Sunday, no one suspected anything unusual. But it seems the fight escalated—he allegedly killed her and her daughter, locked the room, and fled. Days later, a foul odor coming from the room raised concerns, leading to the police being called.”

Police Investigation Underway

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation to apprehend the suspect.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said the Ekiadolor Division received a report from a concerned neighbor on March 18 about a strong odor coming from the couple’s apartment.

“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team to the scene, where they forced the door open. Inside, they discovered the decomposing bodies of the woman and her daughter,” Yamu stated.

The police reported that Osasu’s body bore visible machete wounds, while her daughter, Miracle, was found lifeless on the bed.

“During the preliminary investigation, all evidence pointed to her live-in partner, Wealth Nnamdi, who has since gone into hiding. Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest him,” Yamu added.

Community in Shock

The tragedy has left residents of the Idiagbonna Street area in shock, particularly given the impending wedding of the couple.

A community member remarked, “It’s heartbreaking. They had been planning their wedding, and now we are talking about murder and loss of lives instead.”

Police Appeal for Information

The Edo State Police Command is urging anyone with information about Wealth Nnamdi’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.

This double homicide adds to rising concerns over domestic violence and intimate partner killings across Nigeria, prompting calls for stronger preventive measures and swift justice for victims.
