Nigeria Immigration Service Raises Passport Application Fees Effective September 1

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a fresh upward review of the cost of obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, with effect from September 1, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS disclosed that the new rates will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.

According to the revised fee structure, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with 10-year validity has been pegged at ₦200,000.

The statement clarified that the adjustment does not affect Nigerians applying abroad, who will continue to pay $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.

The NIS explained that the increment was necessary to “maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.”

This latest review comes less than a year after the Federal Government approved a similar adjustment in August 2024, which raised the 32-page booklet from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, and the 64-page booklet from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.

At the time, authorities said the decision was aimed at enhancing service delivery and sustaining the high quality of the Nigerian passport.

With the new development, the cost of processing a passport in Nigeria has effectively doubled within two years, sparking renewed debates over affordability for ordinary citizens.
