ABUJA — In a significant move to sanitise Nigeria’s auction industry, the Nigerian Association of Auctioneers (NAA) has inaugurated a National Task Force Committee to enforce compliance and eliminate unauthorised practices across the country.
The association announced in a statement that David Omeike has been appointed as the National Chairman of the newly formed task force. Omeike, a Lagos-based professional, is the Executive Director of the International Human Rights & Dignity Defenders’ Forum and also serves as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Supernumerary). He is a certified private investigator and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, USA.
According to the NAA’s National Caretaker and Electoral Committee, the task force will ensure strict adherence to the association’s constitution, code of conduct, and operational guidelines. It is mandated to oversee that only duly registered and licensed auctioneers operate within Nigeria. The committee will also monitor and prevent unauthorised auction activities, address sharp practices, and liaise with law enforcement and regulatory agencies to support the implementation of directives from the Caretaker Committee and the National Executive Council.
The task force comprises prominent members of the association, including Adeyemo Adeyemi, Sani Mohammed, Danladi Mamman, Isah Muhammed, Sanusi Ahmad, Tari Emberru, Ebube Jackson, Eddy Imo, Eze Abraham, Umah Argungu, and Abubakar Abdullahi, who will serve as secretary.
Omeike, who previously chaired the NAA Task Force in the South-West, currently holds the position of Managing Director of Cosmopolitan Security and Enquirers. His appointment is seen as a strategic step in the association’s broader effort to restructure and professionalise the auctioneering sector, aligning it with national standards and global best practices.
The Board of Trustees of the NAA, chaired by Alfred Diette-Spiff, who also served as the association’s first NEC president, has expressed strong support for the task force initiative. The association reaffirmed its commitment to restoring credibility and transparency in auction processes across Nigeria.
