The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the reassignment of 57 Secretary-Generals and five officers to various National Sports Federations as part of a strategic effort to reposition the nation’s sports sector.

Olumide Bamiduro, Director of Federation of Elite Athletes at the NSC, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja. The reshuffle, sanctioned by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade, aims to enhance the functionality of sports federations and attract private and corporate investments to drive economic growth.

“The mandate is clear,” Bamiduro stated. “We are to undertake these changes to achieve the results and position the industry to attract private and corporate investments, thereby driving the growth of our sports economy.”

Federations Poised for Transformation

The directive emphasizes the importance of innovation, grassroots development, and elite performance in the federations’ renewed approach. Key sports federations affected include Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling.

The NSC’s Federation Establishment and Appointment Department has been tasked with implementing the postings and ensuring the smooth transition of officers to their new roles.

This move is part of the Commission’s broader vision to revitalize the sports sector, foster grassroots talent, and position Nigeria as a competitive force in global sports.
