The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed 4,000 personnel across the territory to ensure a peaceful and secure Yuletide celebration.
The deployment, ordered by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, is aimed at safeguarding lives and property and protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during and after the festive period.
According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the personnel were drawn from specialised units including the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, CNAI Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Unit, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and Agro Rangers.
Security has been reinforced at churches, shopping malls, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, amusement parks and other locations identified as soft targets. Undercover operatives have also been deployed for covert surveillance, while uncompleted buildings and other identified black spots are under close monitoring.
Odumosu directed area commanders and divisional officers to ensure adequate security coverage in their respective councils, warning that lapses would not be tolerated. He also urged personnel to act professionally, avoid harassment and work in synergy with other security agencies.
The commandant assured residents of a safe festive season and encouraged them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
