On Wednesday, the Ogun State High Court issued a ruling restricting the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests to four designated locations within the state. The court also set specific hours for the protests, allowing them only between 8 am and 5 pm.
The approved protest locations are:
- MKO Stadium, Abeokuta
- Ansar-ud-Deen Comprehensive High School, Ota
- Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu
- Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode
Justice O. Ogunfowora, who granted the application moved by the State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), mandated that protests under the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria banner, or any related slogans, must be confined to these locations and times from August 1, 2024, to August 10, 2024.
The Attorney-General explained that these locations cover all four divisions of the state and the three senatorial districts, ensuring that participants can join the protests while maintaining public order and avoiding disruption to non-protesting residents.
The judge also ordered that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State enforce the restrictions and oversee compliance. The order is set to last for seven days, with the state required to serve notice of the application within this period. Protesters have been given 72 hours to respond to the application.
The case has been adjourned to August 6, 2024.
