Opay Awards Scholarships to 20 UNIUYO Students Under N1.2bn Scheme

Opay has selected 20 outstanding students from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) as beneficiaries of its N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship programme for Nigerian universities. Each student will receive N300,000 annually to support their academic pursuits.

The initiative was formalized on Monday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Opay, represented by its Head of Partnerships, Ikponmwosa Odiase, and the UNIUYO management. Odiase described the programme as part of the fintech company’s Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at empowering youth and investing in Nigeria’s future.

“This is just the first phase. We plan to partner with 20 higher institutions across the country, providing sustained financial support for deserving students. Education is key to nation-building,” Odiase said.

He also hinted at further collaborations with UNIUYO in areas such as internships and employment opportunities.

In his response, UNIUYO Vice Chancellor Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo praised Opay’s commitment to societal development and urged other organizations to follow suit. “Impact, not longevity, defines a successful business,” he stated, assuring Opay of the university’s continued support.

With this agreement, UNIUYO becomes the 11th institution to benefit from Opay’s nationwide scholarship initiative.
